Oklahoma, set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!
We anticipate utilizing a large cast. However, NOT EVERYONE who auditions will be cast
The audition will be in a minimum of two sections. Everyone must participate in both of these sections. After these are completed, there may be call-back auditions with additional material presented.
Section One: Solo Singing: Everyone in the cast must sing. You will need a solo to sing for us. It is advisable to have a copy of music for the provided accompanist to play. Select a solo that shows off your voice. If there is a long introduction to your song, skip it and begin at the meat of the song. CD’s or tapes will not be allowed.
Section Two: Movement: Everyone will be taught a movement audition. You will be asked to perform it in a group of three or four.
Section Three: Reading: Selected auditionees will be asked to read from the script of Oklahoma! for various parts. We will be looking for character, diction and movement that would be consistent with the part being read.
